After a rather frustrating day trying to cancel my gym membership... which seems more and more like a money-thirsty trap, went out for dinner with the family. Thank goodness for them, or else I wouldn't be blogging right now, and pretty much dead... so I can pay off the cancellation fee which might've amounted to $2000+ CANADIAN DOLLARS!!!! Crazy, right? Finally resolved it at $500, but in total, this "lesson" cost me close to $1000 ='( Anyways, onto happier stuff!! Food!! :D
This time, we went to a restaurant that's been around for a long time, and there's good reason why they are still so popular. Pretty much grew up with this restaurant, and it's like a hidden gem here, so I decided to finally blog about it, since I started this blog :)
Ok, so the waitresses there can be a bit cocky sometimes, but if you get to know them, they're actually really nice :) I also noticed the recent price increase, but the size of the dishes remained the same, and quality was the same, so it was ok. I would say this is the best place for good Chinese food near Coquitlam (it's located on the Port Coquitlam- Coquitlam boundary), considering the rest are either too pricey and lack decent food, or don't have very decent food at all =P
Restaurant: Deer Garden 鹿園
Location: 3610 Westwood Street, Port Coquitlam
Cuisine: Chinese
Price range: $10-15 per person for dinner (they have an afternoon menu too)
Date of visit: May 18, 2012
Atmosphere: 3/5
Staff/service: 3.5/5
Food variety: 3.75/5
Food quality: 4.5/5
Buck worthy? 4/5
We ordered the 3 dish combo ($41.88), which comes with rice, soup, and dessert (which is usually sweet soup).
First was the chicken, which is the best chicken I've had so far, and order it every time I come here. Its got good texture and seasoned well, I don't like my chicken mushy, which is what happens with a lot of food places ><"
Next was the bean curds with mushrooms, which is also a family favorite. Very fresh every time, and a good portion of bean curd. My only complaint is that the sauce is too thick.
Last came the fish with celery, fungus, and peas. Very crisp veggies and fish was fresh.
If you have the chance to visit, you should try their curry beef/tofu/chicken/_____ (they have a few curry dishes) and sweet sour pork, both are very delish :D
